Position Summary

The Installation and Service Technician is responsible for providing direction to other team members on site, installation, service/repairs, testing and delivery of patient handling equipment to customer facilities in a timely and professional manner, including educating the patient on the safe operation and use of company product, according to manufacturer’s guidelines.

Major Duties & Responsibilities
  • Usually assigned as project team leader on installation sites, ensuring work load execution for the team and leads all customer and contractor communication.  Ensures all safety guidelines are met for teams, both internal and external guidelines.  Ensures job quality expectations are met with all teams. 
  • Responsible for time management of project and staff to ensure meeting installation time goals assigned to the project, including delegation of assignments.
  • Assists in scheduling projects, working with site specific vendors and customers schedules along with team schedules to ensure access and timing of project execution.  Attends all project meetings required to complete project, internally and externally.
  • Coach, teach and train internal and external representatives in installation and service of all products and processes to complete job duties. 
  • Works with Internal project manager on all design and installation aspects prior to and during installation to fully understand all projects.   Seeks approvals from Project Manager on any change requests outside the original scope of work or installation process.  
  • Creates and submits daily site progress reports to management.
  • Responsible for parts verification, loading and unloading, delivery and installation of lift systems in accordance to schedule.
  • Expense monitoring and time management of self and on-site teams by managing flight, lodging, tool and other expense related transactions required to complete project. 
  • Minimize any needs for emergency materials by verification of project and on site materials needed to complete projects. 
  • Ability to step into existing and ongoing projects with ease. 
  • Perform installations according to current installation manual protocols, including final inspections at job completion. 
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, set up, schedule or perform repair of product while in the field, by email or by telephone.  Maintain all technical manuals required to complete repairs, order parts, and maintain equipment of product according to manufacturers’ guidelines. 
  • Service existing accounts by analyzing work orders, planning daily travel schedule, investigating and analyzing complaints, conducting tests, identify solutions and problem solving.    
  • Maintain tools and installation equipment, vehicles and other corporate assets per manufacturers suggested guidelines. 
  • Educate customers on improved methods and techniques of such equipment, along with preventative maintenance and safety regulations. 
  • Install, test, repair and maintain ceiling lift motors and rail systems per manufacturer recommendations.
  • Demonstrates proper and safe product usage.
  • Perform preventative maintenance protocols per contract.
  • Perform weight testing according to ISO10535 requirements.
  • Complete, maintain and submit all forms, reports, logs and records in a timely manner.
  • Suggest product and installation improvements to management, performing site assessments and resolutions to projects when requested or required. 
  • Maintain service/install vehicle pre-determined inventory levels.
  • Drive safely and in accordance with all traffic laws.
  • Check electrical outlets for power and proper ground when delivering electrically powered medical equipment, in addition to observing entire environment/surroundings for any concerns in accordance with set procedures.
  • Perform verification that the installation and/or service was successful, utilizing proper installation and service procedures to meet customer expectations, and complete necessary paperwork and collect client signatures. 
  • Maintain customers confidence by keeping confidential information.
  • Complete required paperwork upon delivery, pick up, or service of product and follow and adhere to HIPAA guidelines. 
  • Must be able to travel 100%.  (Local and out of state travel).
  • Communicate with customer on the phone or in person with regards to onsite expectations for arrivals, departures and duration of service or install.    
  • Provide scheduled on call emergency service as required and maintain communication with the department manager while in the field.
  • Update personal job knowledge and education certificates by participating in educational opportunities, corporate training, and reading professional publications.
  • Maintain annual employment certification requirements (DOT, Flu shot, TB)
  • Accomplish company mission statement by completing expected tasks when required.
  • Inspect, test and re-certify durable medical equipment following manufacturer’s specifications
  • Troubleshoot to determine causes of operating errors and knowledge of how to repair.
  • Perform preventative maintenance of service such as cleaning, lubricating and adjusting equipment.
  • Test and calibrate components and equipment following manufacturer’s manuals and troubleshooting techniques, using hand tools, power tools and measuring devices.
  • Keep accurate records of all maintenance or service performed.
  • Assists with Shipping and Receiving as required.
  • Maintains work area in order to keep neat, clean, and organized.
  • Logs all activities into the preferred database on timed intervals as set forth by Management
  • Maintain daily voice mail, email and text correspondence at predetermined intervals. 
  • Keeps track of all travel receipts and complies with all company policies regarding expensed items
  • All employees are required to attend education workshops on excellent customer service, review pertinent industry literature, attend in-services on new product(s) and technology when provided, and avails self of audio and videotapes for additional training
Required Education

High School Diploma or Equivalent

Required Skills & Experience
  • OSHA 30 Certification (Will provide training).
  • Good communication skills (verbal and written), along with good organizational skills.
  • Must have a good driving record and a current valid driver license that is issued in your home state.
  • Must pass background screening, drug test and reference checks.
  • Ability to pass DOT medical examinations and other Federal requirements.
  • Must have excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to read and follow directions and drawings.
  • Ability to stand/bend for long periods of time.
  • Ability to climb ladders and general overhead work during installations and service.
  • Ability to safely lift, push or pull up to 100 lbs.
  • Capable of being entrusted with company assets and confidential information.
  • At least 3 years of related skills and training on repairing and installation of safe patient handling equipment.
  • Must follow proper protocols for handling clean/dirty equipment, decontamination of equipment and preparation for redistribution, and record keeping. 
  • Able to read and comprehend manuals provided by equipment manufacturers to maintain current knowledge and perform annual maintenance.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude.
Preferred Skills, Experience & Education
  • Must have willingness and ability to work extended work week, including evenings and weekends.
  • Knowledgeable in low voltage wiring.
  • Previous driving/delivery or construction experience preferred.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and maintain electronic equipment.
  • General construction, minor electrical, basic carpentry and metal skills preferred.
  • Ability to travel independently throughout airports and roads.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to complete reports manually and electronically.
