Position Summary

The Inventory Control and Cost Accountant will be responsible for the overall accounting functions that impact the company’s manufacturing and distribution operations and the valuation of inventory.   This role will be instrumental to managing financial performance of the company’s operations including analysis of forecasts and actual performance, business drivers, and operational metrics. 
While assisting with the development and verification of data relative to cost accounting and margin analysis, the main focus of the position will be to ensure the proper recording of inventory, including but not limited to, establishing and enforcing procedures for accurate and timely reporting, conducting analysis to improve procedures, and partnering with Operations and FP&A on process improvements.

Job Requirements



  • Operate as a change agent for the development of inventory procedures and strengthening of internal controls related to inventory
  • Monitor inventory transactions and reconcile accounts to the general ledger
  • Work with operations to properly account for disposition of excess/obsolete inventory and capitalization of inventory issued to the rental fleet
  • Report on periodic variances and their causes
  • Perform validation procedures of vendor owned, repair part, and consigned inventory
  • Prepare journal entries and reconciliations related to inventory transactions and accruals
  • Analyze accounts for reasonableness and proper accounting flows
  • Ensure process integrity within Manufacturing, Intercompany, and Inventory while working with cross-functional peers to resolve process issues
  • Assist with interim and year end audits
  • Partner with Operations Management to monitor, track, and analyze physical inventory counts and cycle counts to ensure accuracy of both the warehouse and field operations, reconcile differences and recommend adjustments.
  • Analyze inventory movement, calculate turns and analyze trends by product line
  • Review inventory items for obsolescence and recommend reserves
  • Ensure accurate product costing, valuation and reporting of all raw materials, work in process and finished goods inventory
  • Reconcile perpetual inventory balances to the G/L, identifying & resolving differences
  • Review, analyze and publish inventory related KPI results pertaining to count adjustments, PPVs, slow moving, disposals, quality status and other issues
  • Perform ad hoc analysis and special projects as requested


Required Education

Education BS/BA in accounting, business or finance

Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 3+ years of experience
  • Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office products
  • Self-motivated and able to execute independently with the ability to demonstrate sound judgment and resourcefulness in decision making and problem solving
  • Independent thinker and skilled at developing new processes and identifying areas for process improvement as well as ability to tactfully present ideas to stakeholders
  • Form collaborative relationships with internal customers by listening, clarifying, and responding effectively and courteously
  • Attention to details and strong organizational skills, as well as critical analysis and adaptability is essential
  • Ability to meet multiple deadlines and adapt to changing priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with management and team members
  • Must be able to work on assigned projects and responsibilities with limited supervision


Preferred Skills, Experience & Education

  • CPA or CMA a plus
  • Proficient knowledge SAP preferred
